Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of extra features here and they're all good, but there are some great supplements that the Criterion version had that aren't here, and if you've seen those you might be disappointed that they're not here. Yet, here we are. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Though the directional effects are minimal in the dialog scenes (which comprise the majority of the movie) the concert scenes are immensely improved, with the bass thumping like it should and a great directional separation between the instruments.
There are too many classic moments in this film to possibly count, and I won't even bother trying to quote lines or describe gags-- it wouldn't be as funny. There are a few other things, such as the "Flower People" press conference in its entirety (pretty funny), a brief appearance by Tap on the Joe Franklin Show (a real show and a real appearance, not that funny), the trailers, the TV commercials, and the fake commercial, "Heavy Metal Memories," that has been appearing on VHS versions of this movie forever. Then there are music videos for four Tap songs: "Hell Hole," "Big Bottom," "Gimme Some Money," and "(Listen to the) Flower People." Then there's the meatiest feature of all, the deleted scenes section. The Criterion version had two, one with Guest, McKean and Shearer, one with Reiner and a producer. Every dollar helps dump Trump, turn out voters, and protect PA voting rights. I had no idea that it was possible to so radically retool a soundtrack that was originally nothing to get excited about and come out with something this dynamic. The result is a very realistic mock-rock-documentary that cuts so close to the bone of the ridiculous world of rock and roll that it's said that some real rock stars didn't get it. Make sure your sound is up the moment you pop this disc in, you'll get a nice funny little surprise on the initial menu screen. The rarity of that Criterion edition made this new MGM version very hotly anticipated by Tap aficionados, but at the same time we have been a little nervous that the new disc wouldn't measure up to the last one, which is one of the best DVDs ever. As for what's not here that was on the Criterion version, well, those missing commentaries are pretty excellent, and the short, "Spinal Tap: The Final Tour," which I mentioned above, was on the Criterion version and that's a pretty notable omission.

There are a few specks and spots here and there, and there is some film grain visible, but in the case of a movie like this, which is intended to be a slightly rough-hewn documentary, it's fine. Except for "Hell Hole," they're just the extended, uncut clips that appear in the movie. Also it bears noting that the numerous cameos in the movie by the likes of Bruno Kirby, Fran Drescher, Billy Crystal, and Dana Carvey are considerably longer in the deleted scenes section. The video quality, though not nearly as good as the feature, is still much improved over the deleted scenes on the Criterion edition.

There is over an hour of them, and to my surprise many of them are different from what was included on the Criterion version, some of them very funny. They made a 20-minute short through improvisation (plot points were decided beforehand but from there all the dialogue was improvised) to raise money for the full-length feature, and then the feature was made the same way. The images should not contain any sexually explicit content, race hatred material or other offensive symbols or images. Donald Trump has been a stain on this nation for four long years — fueling hate, corrupting democracy, and lying with virtually every breath.
As I said in the review of the print Criterion version, it's great to hear "Big Bottom" with a big bottom. The whole thing is the ingenious brainchild of Rob Reiner (DiBergi), Michael McKean (St. Hubbins), Christopher Guest (Tufnel) and Harry Shearer (Smalls), who conceived of the movie and then realized it could never have a proper script. Though the movie is packed with laughs, the actors all play it straight, and even go one further by making their characters seem real, and then go one further than that by making the characters likeable.
Suffice it to say that any piece of film containing these three guys wearing those wigs, talking in those accents, is pure spun gold, and if you haven't seen this movie SHAME ON YOU and go get this DVD right now. and they "reminisce" about the tour and what they remember of the time.
