Perhaps part of the problem is that the long-running series that I do know tend to fall into two camps: interesting and popular, if problematic in one or two ways (Sailor Moon, Kareshi to Kanojo no Jijou), or what I tend to think of as kids’ shows (Pokemon, Dragonball, et cetera).
