Mother and Father take the family to church in town, where Ralph and his siblings learn some bad words from other kids. I thouroughly enjoyed it. I will be reading this to Squirt. In is the sort of book that would never, ever be published, let alone find popularity, in today's socio-political climate. I read these first as a child, but have kept a copy of all 8 books nearby to re-read on a regular basis.

Throughout the story Ralph is faced with challenges that require self-control and courage. I've always considered this series a "Little House" for boys.
But judging by its bestseller status, a lot of adults were reading it, too.
